About This Book:

This book is a modern English translation of Ibn ‘Aqil al-Hanbali’s (d. 513/1119) seminal essay on Islamic manners, Fusūl al-Ādāb wa Makārim al-Akhlāq al-Mashrū‘a. The work presents a rich collection of commendable etiquettes and moral guidelines that Muslims are encouraged to observe in daily life and interactions.

Renowned as the earliest and shortest extant Hanbali work on Islamic manners, Ibn ‘Aqil’s essay provides timeless guidance on cultivating virtuous character through study and practice. The translation employs simple, clear, and modern language to make the work accessible to readers of all backgrounds.

This bilingual edition features the original Arabic text alongside the English translation, offering readers the opportunity to engage directly with the source. It is ideal for vocabulary building, improving oracy, and supporting future translations.

In Islam, good manners (ādāb) are not only admired but are considered an essential part of spiritual and social life. This translation aims to serve as a practical guide for refining character and cultivating exemplary conduct.
